Acid retarder is a cationic product suitable for use in all crude oils.
- HCI reacts very rapidly when coming into contact with carbonate formations.
- The effectiveness of the acid treatment is extended only to the distance the live acid travels before it is spent by the carbonates and other acid soluble material in the formation.
- Acid without retarder merely enlarges the channels and crevices near the well bore. Greater acid penetration can be obtained by retarding the reaction rate of the acid.
- Chemically retarded acid is formed by the use of acid retarder which added to hydrochloric acid.
- Acid retarder forms a chemical barrier between the acid and the formation rock and hence releases the retarded acid slowly to penetrate in the formation to form lengthy cervices.
Applications
- Well stimulation and acid fracturing applications
- Slow reaction rate for deeper penetration in the reservoir
- Less surface equipment requirement as low friction pressure
- Applicable at various temperature
